The Grange Pavilion CIO – made up of Grangetown residents, Grange Pavilion Project, Grangetown Community Action, Cardiff University’s Community Gateway, Taff Housing, Cardiff and Vale College, Cardiff Bay Rotary Club and RSPB Cymru – took the keys on Monday 29th of June and we are now working closely with our contractor, BECT, on the finishing touches with the hope that the building is ready for use by mid-August.

We will be abiding strictly to Welsh Government guidelines and are working on adapting the building to accommodate social distancing measures and safe practices, such as installing hand sanitizing stations and one-way systems.

Ali Abdi and members of the Youth Forum have been using their new drone to take some exciting videos of the pavilion and grounds, which we hope to share soon, and Community Gateway and our CIO board members have worked with artist Jack Skivens and Creative Cardiff to create a storyboard of the story of Grange Pavilion, which will be on display in the new building.

Last week, our manager, Sophey Mills, visited the pavilion for the first time since the beginning of lockdown. She shares some of her thoughts from her visit below:

  1. How did you feel the first time you walked into the almost finished pavilion?

“Overwhelmed and excited for sure! So happy I have joined such a great team and to be working in an amazing area of Cardiff! Just cannot wait to share it with the community💚”

  1. Is there anything that you’re nervous about?

“To be honest I’m not! I’m far too excited to be nervous”

  1. What are you most excited for when the building opens?

“I am excited to get the community together! To enable opportunities for everyone, to provide a variety of activities and ensure everyone is happy!”

  1. What is the best way for people to stay updated on what’s going on with the pavilion?

“The best way would be our website or our social media platforms! Grange Pavilion on Facebook and @Grange_Pavilion on Twitter 😊”

  1. And lastly, any plans on how you want to decorate your office?

“The office will be decorated to ensure it has a warm, welcoming feeling where other people who are hot-desking will want to return!”

We’re so excited to see it all come together, and we can’t wait to introduce the space to you!

Make sure to head over to our social media pages to see a walkthrough of the place and remember to follow us for more updates!

With love,
The Grange Pavilion Team
